Why Choose Data Recovery Specialists?

Established in 1996, Data Recovery Specialists are one of the industry leaders for data recovery in the UK. We’re committed to providing a simple and professional data recovery service for all of our clients.

Is my Data Safe?
One of the most important things you need to look for in a data recovery service is data security; after all, you want your precious data to be handled with the utmost confidentially. We regularly deal with data from businesses, like financial records, and personal private data like scans of identification, personal documents and photos etc. Our data recovery lab is ISO 270001 and 9001 accredited, which pertain to information security and information management, respectively. We also work to the Association of Chief Police Officers guidelines for handling electronic evidence. You can rest assured that your data will be safe in our hands.

How Much Does Data Recovery Cost?
This is probably one of our most asked questions, and the short answer is – it depends. The cost of data recover depends on a multitude of factors, such as what type of media we’re dealing with (hard disk drive, solid state drive, USB flash drive etc) and what type of damage has caused your data to be lost or inaccessible (physical or logical faults). If you consider a broken-down car. Why has the car broken down? It could be down to one of many reasons, and there’s no simple, catch-all quote to fix a broken car. We aim to provide a free diagnosis, file listing and no-obligation quote to complete the data recovery within 24-48 hours, although often, it’s much faster. Once you have received your quote, it’s up to you whether you want to go ahead. If you accept the quote, we’ll recover your data and put it on a blank hard drive, and return it to you via courier. If you decline the quote, we’ll send your media back to you free of charge.

Our Data Recovery Clean Room
Hard drives are not designed to be taken apart and repaired. They are comprised of delicate internal components, and assembled in the most controlled conditions. When you open a hard drive at home and attempt to repair it, even before you’ve started to tinker with it, you’ve put your data at risk. Even the tiniest particle of dust or dirt can be catastrophic for your hard drive. Data is stored on the hard drive’s platters, and is read from and written to them by the drive’s read/write heads, which hover a fraction of a millimetre above the magnetic platters. Although hard drives aren’t vacuums, they’re assembled in conditions rather like our own Class 100 clean room, to ensure nothing can get into the chassis. If just a small particle of dust comes in between the read/write head and the platter, it can cause a head crash and potentially destroy your data and render data recovery impossible. Therefore, when disassembling a hard drive, you need to do it in conditions similar to those in which it was assembled i.e. contaminant-free. Our Class 100 clean room, where all physical data recovery work is undertaken, is filtered to ensure there is never more than 100 particles of dust per cubic foot. In reality, though, our standards are much higher and there is typically less than this. If you’re thinking about opening your hard drive to repair it yourself – don’t! Our data recovery engineers are much more qualified, and will only open your hard drive in the strictest of conditions.
