The Best Mac Data Recovery Apps in 2019

While everyone knows how important it is to back their data up, not everyone does. Here’s our rundown of some of the best Mac data recovery apps out there.

EaseUS
EaseUS is a data recovery program we’ve discussed at length before, and for good reason – it is probably the best data recovery tool out there, and is available both as a Windows program and an app on Macs. EaseUS lets you recover deleted, reformatted or otherwise lost or inaccessible data on your iMac, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, external hard drive SSD, memory card or USB flash drive. The app features an intuitive data recovery wizard that will guide you through the process. EaseUS lets you recover all manner of file types, from documents and photos to videos, music and email archives. This Mac data recovery app supports HFS+, APFS, HFS X, FAT, ex-FAT and NTFS file systems, and can be used in operating systems up to the recent one, macOS Mojave 10.14.

Disk Drill
Another piece of data recovery software we’ve written about, Disk Drill is also available for both Windows PCs and Macs. This data recovery program offers a free version which allows the user to find out what data is actually recoverable, but for the full data recovery, you’ll need to buy the full version of £69. Disk Drill allows you to perform deep scans and search for lost partitions on your Macs storage device.

Data Rescue 5
This Mac data recovery app costs £75, but you can download a free Data File Finder app from manufacturers Prosoft in order to locate any files you might want recover, before committing to the full version. The free demo version also allows you to preview any recoverable files, so you know exactly what you’re getting back. The intuitive user interface makes it incredibly easy to use, and the data recovery app offers the option to view previous scan results, as well as clone a failing hard drive and create a recovery drive. Any file type is recoverable, as long as it is found in an HFS/NTFS catalogue.

MiniTool
MiniTool Mac Data Recovery allows you to recover files in a number of different data loss situations. There’s a free demo version of this data recovery app, but it only allows you to recover 1MB of data, and doesn’t allow you to load a previous scan result. The personal version is £79, which allows to recover an unlimited amount of data and load the results of a previous scan, and MiniTool also has a number of commercial versions, starting at £199.
