Typical Apple Mac Symptoms

Clicking Noises

Apple Macs are designed to operate quietly, so you are unlikely to hear any pronounced sounds coming from your hard drive. Listen carefully and any clicking may be indicative of a head crash. Providing the crash is not too severe, recovery is possible in our clean room.

Grinding or Screeching

Grinding could simply be the fans and heat sink fins. If you've cleaned these and the sound is coming from the HDD, backup immediately if you can. The bearings are beginning to fail on the motor that drives the spindles.

Not Detected

Once you've tried the usual fixes to revive a non-booting drive and run the Rovery Mode in Disk Utility, check the flex cables connecting the drive. Don't attempt reinstalling macOS unless you have a reliable backup.

Firmware Issues

Firmware is written directly to the hardware and sits beneath the operating system. Reinstalling macOS or replacing the drive will not rescue your data. Computers running the latest veesions of macOS lag when it comes to firmware, because firmware updates are bundled into operating system updates.

Logical Failure

A term which encompasses any failure that is not mechanical, logical issues can be varied. Often data recovery software will repair minor logical issues. However, logical issues on Apple Macs are exasperated by software and hardware encryption.
